Patna: A passenger in a service flight created panic mid-air after he smoked cigarette in the lavatory of the aircraft in which he was travelling from Delhi to Patna on Tuesday. The passenger, Mohammad Nazir Alam (25), who works in Saudi Arabia, was later arrested by the police at Patna airport.
Two lighters, two cigarette packs and two screwdrivers were recovered from the possession of the passenger.
Sources at the airport said no inflammable item is allowed to be carried by passengers during flight and scanners are used to identify such prohibited items. "We are also surprised how he managed to board the flight with inflammables," said a source.
Airport CISF commandant Dharmaveer Yadav said the passenger smoked cigarette mid-flight which blew the fire alarms of the aircraft. "The crew handed over the passenger to the CISF security personnel as soon as the aircraft landed at the Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in the city," Yadav said, adding that the passenger was later taken to Airport police station for interrogation.
Airport police station SHO Dhananjay Kumar said Alam admitted to have smoked cigarette inside the lavatory. Alam is a native of Santpur village under Nautan police station in West Champaran district. TNN
