Madhubani DM reviews vibrant village programme implementation
Madhubani: DM Anand Sharma chaired a meeting of the district-level committee under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) at the collectorate conference hall on Wednesday to strengthen infrastructure and livelihoods in remote border areas.
The meeting focused on expediting development in 36 selected villages across seven border blocks of Madhubani district, which shares an international border with Nepal. These villages have been identified under the Centre’s Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II), a Central Sector Scheme aimed at transforming strategic border villages into self-reliant communities.
The DM asked officers to prepare detailed proposals for facilities including marriage halls, libraries, roads and connectivity, community halls, Chhath ghats, sports grounds, health sub-centres, Adarsh Vidyalayas, integrated check posts and other essential amenities.
The initiative seeks to bridge gaps in services, improve healthcare and education access, enhance road, electricity, water and mobile connectivity, generate employment, curb migration and promote self-reliance in border areas.
Approved by the Union cabinet in April 2025 with an outlay of Rs 6,839 crore till FY 2028-29, the programme expands beyond the northern border focus of VVP-I to cover villages along international borders, including Bihar. It emphasises convergence of schemes to ensure all-weather roads, telecom, television and critical services while promoting tourism, livelihoods and national integration.
