Lalit Narayan Mithila University senate approves Rs1,349-crore deficit budget
Darbhanga: The Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) senate, at its meeting held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Sanjay Kumar Chaudhary, approved a deficit budget of Rs1,349 crore for the financial year 2026-27.
The budget, presented by the university’s financial advisor Indra Kumar, projects an expenditure of Rs1,529.73 crore against an estimated income of Rs181.29 crore.
In his presidential address, the VC said the objectives behind the establishment of LNMU were being fulfilled and all academic activities were being conducted in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He said construction of a women’s hostel and a social science block had been completed, while laboratories for practical subjects were being strengthened and upgraded.
He added that students were benefiting from the e-learning lab in the university library and undertaking research through platforms such as Shodh Ganga, Shodh Shuddhi and Shodh Chakra under INFLIBNET. The e-Granthalaya system is also being used. These initiatives were taken following approvals granted by the senate in its previous meeting.
The VC said the university was proud that two researchers — Abhishek Adarsh and Suravi Kumari — who received the ‘Young Geographers Award’ from Central University of South Bihar, while Sonu Kumar was honoured by Patna University for his work using the remote sensing laboratory. An audio-video lab has also been established in the geography department, he added.
The VC further said LNMU is the only university to have adopted the provisions of SWAYAM-MOOCs, an open platform offering free online courses by the Union ministry of education. Students can now avail themselves of MOOCs in addition to classroom teaching.
He said the university is following directives of the governor’s secretariat to implement the SAMARTH portal for official work in colleges and the university office. Under the scheme, 44 modules are available. The leave module has been implemented at the university level since Jan 1, while the payroll management and pension modules will be implemented soon. These modules will later be extended to affiliated colleges as well, he added.
