KHAGARIA: In a gruesome incident, a 40-year-old man killed his wife and three minor daughters by slitting their throats with a sharp-edged weapon before hanging himself with a tree near his house at Ekania village under Mansi police station area in Khagaria district in the wee hours on Wednesday. His two minor sons sleeping on the rooftop managed to flee in the darkness.

Khagaria SP Amitesh Kumar said Munna Yadav, an absconder in a murder case, visited his house Tuesday night and had heated arguments with his wife over an unknown issue. He then killed his wife Puja Devi (35) and daughters Suman Kumari (18), Anchal Kumari (16) and Raushani Kumari (14) by slitting their throats with a 'dabiya' (a sharp-edged weapon used by farmers) while they were sleeping in the house.

The incident came to light when some villagers found the body of Munna hanging from a tree near his house Wednesday morning and informed the police.

The SP, along with SDPO Sumit Kumar, visited the spot and said the cause of fight between Munna and his wife could not be ascertained.

A forensic team has been requisitioned for proper investigation into the case, the SP said. However, sources said his wife was putting pressure on Munna to surrender and that could be the reason behind the gory incident. Munna, along with his brother, was involved in the murder of a landlord in a village under Mufassil police station area in October, 2022.

His brother is in jail while Munna had been absconding. Aditya Kumar, one of the two minor sons who escaped the brutality, told the media, “I was sleeping on the rooftop with my brother and three sisters when my father came around 1.30 am. My mother opened the door. After spending some time in the house, he started quarrelling with my mother around 3am. He then slit my mother’s throat and climbed on the rooftop. He slit the throats of my three sisters as well. We saw everything. I, along with my brother Ankit, ran away from the house and hid ourselves.” Aditya said they had raised an alarm but no one came to save them for fear of their father.
