Kerala Club seeks train extension
PATNA: The Kerala Club has appealed to railway minister Mamata Banerjee to extend the Patna-Cochin Express (train no 6310) upto Thiruvananthapuram via Kottayam.
In a letter faxed to the minister on Friday, the vice-president and general secretary of the Club, G R Nair and Jose Thomas respectively, have demanded that the train be given ‘superfast’ status as it covered more than 3,000 km. This train, currently run only twice a week (on Thursday and Friday), should be run daily or at least on four days in a week, the letter said.
Their other demand included extension of Patna-Ernakulam (train no. 6360) up to Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu.
The train is a boon for Keralites living in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Even tourists, patients to Vellore and students studying in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram prefer this train. “It’s our long- pending demand,” said Jose Thomas.
