PATNA: State vigilance investigation bureau officials on Friday raided the official and residential premises of district programme officer (DPO), Katihar, Virendra Narain, who was also in charge of midday meal scheme of the education department in the district, and unearthed both movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees. The bureau has filed a case of disproportionate assets against him.
According to vigilance bureau sources, Virendra has purchased several plots and flats in his own name and that of his wife and in-laws. He recently bought a flat in NOIDA. Besides, a sum of Rs 8 lakh was deposited in six different bank accounts. He bought many plots in several parts of the state. He had also allegedly amassed several benami assets. The value of all these is being calculated.
Vigilance officials said before 1994, Virendra was a schoolteacher. Apparently, he amassed the assets in a span of 21 years.
Meanwhile, vigilance bureau caught labour enforcement officer of Naubatpur, Patna, while accepting a bribe of Rs 13,000 from Mahesh Kumar Singh of Naubatpur block for clearing payment due to Singh.
