GAYA: The 17th Karmapa, Trinley Dorjee, arrived in Bodh Gaya on a six-week-long religious sojourn in the holy land where Gautam Buddha ac-quired enlightenment over 2,500 years ago.
Karmapa arrived in the holy city shortly before noon by a special flight from Kolkata. Karmapa devotees, including the robed Lamas, offered a traditional Ti-betan welcome to the visiting holy man on his arrival at the Tregar Monas-tery in Bodh Gaya.
As per the Karmapa’s schedule, the spiritual leader will remain in the holy city till January 3, 2011.
Karmapa, who hit international headlines about a decade ago for making a successful exit from Tibet, was welcomed with a colourful religious dance presentation and playing of awesome Tibetan musical instruments looking like horns.
During his nearly six-week stay in Bodh Gaya, the Karmapa would par-ticipate in special peace prayers, deliver sermons and meditate near the seat of Buddha’s enlightenment.
