ARA/BEGUSARAI/PATNA: A JD(U) youth wing functionary was shot dead in a

Bhojpur

village for allegedly opposing liquor mafia in the district while a 35-year-old man with criminal antecedents was gunned down in Begusarai district on late Thursday evening.

Saheb Yadav, the district JD(U) youth wing general secretary, was shot dead by unidentified criminals at his Roop Bandh village under Jagdishpur police station in Bhojpur district when he had gone out of his home to answer the call of nature. The assailants were waiting outside and fired at close range leading to his instant death. Yadav, who used to raise his voice against liquor smuggling in the area, was rushed to the hospital at Ara where the doctors declared him brought dead.

JD(U) district president Ashok Kumar Sharma said the involvement of liquor mafia in his killing could not be ruled out as Yadav used to oppose them. Bhojpur SP (in charge) Sudhir Kumar Porika said two suspects were detained for interrogation in the case.

In another incident, the Saran police recovered the body of a 45-year-old medical practitioner, Shiv Kumar Singh, from Rasauli village under Panapur police station in the district on Friday morning. He had been missing from his private clinic since Thursday evening. The deceased belonged to neighbouring Nayagaon but lived and practised medicine at Rasauli for over a decade.

Saran SP Har Kishore Rai said a special investigation team has been set up to crack the case. “Prima facie it appears that Singh was

killed

due to personal enmity,” an investigating officer said. He had stab marks on his body.

In another incident, one Naresh Yadav alias Mini Naresh was gunned down at Kashimpur village under Naya Gaon police station in Begusarai district on Thursday night. Police said Naresh, the ward member of Gorgama panchayat, was attacked when he was sitting with a friend near his house.

Naya Gaon SHO Yashoda Nand Pandey said Naresh was an accused in murder, loot and kidnapping cases. “His murder is stated to be a fallout of gang rivalry in the area,” he added.

The police recovered one used cartridge from the site. The SHO said the assailants escaped with Yadav’s mobile phone after committing the crime. An FIR has been lodged against three named accused in this connection. However, none was arrested in the case.
