Inter exams: 13 lakh to write papers at 1,762 centres
Patna: The stage is set for the conduct of the 2026 annual Intermediate examinations, which will commence across the state on Monday. More than 13 lakh boys and girls will appear in the examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) at 1,762 examination centres statewide. In Patna district alone, 73,963 examinees, including 38,037 girls, will take the examination at 84 centres.
BSEB has issued a Unique ID to every examinee to facilitate special identification. A WhatsApp group titled “BSEB Exam 2026” will be created, linking district magistrates, superintendents of police and BSEB officials for dissemination of important information and quick resolution of issues. A control room will also be set up and will function round the clock from 6 am on Feb 1 to 6 pm on Feb 13.
The examinations will be held in two shifts — the first shift from 9.30am and the second shift from 2 pm. Examinees will have to enter the examination hall at least half an hour before the commencement of the examination in both shifts.
BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said all district magistrates, superintendents of police and district education officers have been issued necessary instructions to ensure the examinations are conducted in a peaceful and transparent manner under strict security arrangements. He said DMs and SPs will remain on constant movement, visiting centres to ensure that no unauthorised person enters the examination premises.
He added that prohibitory orders would be enforced within a 200-metre radius of examination centres. Magistrates along with police personnel will be deployed at all centres, and no student will be allowed to enter the hall after the commencement of the examination. Each examinee will be frisked at two levels — first at the centre gate by police and magistrates, and then at the entrance of the examination hall by invigilators.
There will be one invigilator for every 25 examinees, and each invigilator will have to submit an affidavit certifying that all examinees under his or her supervision have been frisked and no objectionable item found. There must be at least two invigilators in each hall. Except the centre superintendent, no invigilator, examinee or staff will be allowed to carry a mobile phone inside the hall.
CCTV cameras will be installed at all centres, with one videographer deployed for every 500 students. The centre superintendent will convene a meeting of invigilators and static magistrates on Wednesday to review arrangements.
Sealed question paper packets received from banks or treasuries will be opened at centres in the presence of static magistrates in both sittings, with complete videography. Students will be given 100% additional alternative questions in both objective and subjective papers. For instance, 100 questions will be provided if only 50 are required to be answered. Examinees will also be given an additional 15 minutes for reading and understanding the question paper, the chairman added.
