PATNA: Tableaux, march-past and rehearsals are keeping school students busy these days as educational institutions are getting ready for the
Independence Day celebrations. Kids and teachers of schools and colleges are leaving no stone unturned to make the 70th celebration a big affair.
At Notre Dame Academy, the primary wing is reverberated with patriotic songs like ‘Nanha munna rahi hoon’, ‘Aye watan’ and ‘Sare jahan se achcha’.
Tiny tots of Montessori wing coordinate the steps on dance. “Senior students will present a dance-drama to highlight the country’s achievements since independence. A well-coordinated orchestra performance by the school band will be the main attraction of the celebration,” said senior teacher Abha Choudhary.
The celebration at St Michael’s High School will kick off with a march-past by NCC cadets and school band. It will be followed by a series of colourful cultural programmes. Kids of primary section will present a jhanki. One of the programme coordinators, Snigdha, said, “This year, the theme of the skit will be
Bihar’s role in freedom of India and another one will be on 100 years of Champaran Satyagrah.”
A Class XI student of St Karen’s High School, Anushka said, “This is the first time I am making a tableau. It’s an amazing experience. Working together on any new thing is always a gratifying feeling.”
Students of DAV School, BSEB, Radiant International School, International School, Baldwin Academy, Ishan International School, Krishna Niketan, Bishop Scott Girls’ School, Mt Carmel High School, St Xavier’s High School, St Joseph’s Convent High School, Open Minds A Birla School, Litera Valley School, Gyan Nikletan, Don Bosco Academy, Kendriya Vidyalaya, The Tribhuvan School and Dr DY Patil Pushpalata Patil International School are putting up their best to show love for motherland.
Apart from the cultural events, educational institutions will also organize competitions like debate, quiz and painting.
Higher institutions like Patna Women’s College, Magadh Mahila College, St Xavier’s College of Education, AN College and Arvind Mahila College will host a weeklong programme to mark Independence Day.
Shefali Roy, head of political science department at PWC, said the programme will begin on August 10 with patriotic song competition. “Eight teams from various departments have been selected through a screening process. On August 12, BCom students will perform a mime on ‘Bharat ki pehchan’ while students of political science, mass communication and philosophy will perform on Maithili song ‘Hey janani’. This year’s theme for the celebration is ‘Tribute to Indian Army’,” she said.
