In Lok Sabha, Chirag Paswan raises Arwal case

PATNA: LJP (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan on Friday raised in the Lok Sabha the issue of alleged rise in crimes, especially against the members of scheduled castes, in Bihar and said, "Parliament can't be a mute spectator when the state government is mum over the incidents of serious nature of crimes."
Raising the incident of Arwal district's Chakia village during the Zero Hour, Chirag said a woman and her five-year-old daughter were burnt alive after their house was set ablaze at the village by people accused by the mother of trying to sexually assault one of her family members.
Chirag said the culprits were angry with the woman, a member of the Paswan community, for complaining to police and alleged that the local administration was not helping the victim's family.
A 29-year-old Dalit woman died and her five-year-old daughter suffered serious burn injuries after their house was set ablaze on November 28 night. The daughter later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in the state capital, police said. Police said four members of the family were inside their home when it was set on fire allegedly by the key accused who earlier had tried to molest a woman from the victims' family.
