Patna: In a remarkable feat, a third-year BTech student of IIT Patna, Priyanka Kumari, was declared the winner of the sixth season of Tata Steel’s Woman of Mettle competition held recently.
In line with conscious efforts towards improving gender diversity in technical areas, Tata Steel introduced ‘Women of Mettle’ programme for technical school campuses. It has been organising the "Women of Mettle " scholarship programme for the last six years with a view to inducting bright young women engineers into the manufacturing sector. The theme for this season was "Technology and sustainability." The season witnessed some of the brightest young female candidates from India’s premier engineering institutes display their ingenuity, acumen and spirited performance.
‘Women of Mettle’ programme is an intellectual marathon wherein young minds embark on journeys and rise to technical challenges. It gives students the opportunity to experience diverse cross-functional challenges, as well as access to Tata Steel’s senior management who act as tutors and mentors. This scholarship programme ‘Women Of Mettle’ helps to position the manufacturing sector as a potential career option for women by attracting more women talent from across the country to join the sector.
