patna: union health minister c p thakur while announcing that he would personally monitor the ddt spray operations in bihar in april, on monday asked the state government to establish malaria/kala-azar control society in order to receive financial aid from the centre. he assured the bihar health minister shakuni chaudhary that the centre would explore the possibility of meeting the operational cost of insecticide spray in bihar, adding the state government should review the ddt spraying in the state to improve the quality of spray.

the state government has demanded rs 3 crore from the centre to meet the operational cost of two rounds of ddt. the centre had alloted 850 metric tonnes of ddt to bihar during the current fiscal under kala-azar control programme. earlier, the centre had released rs 70 lakh to the state under the programme which was being utilised to pay wages to the labourers involved in the spray. he said he had also ordered for immediate supply of adequate ddt and anti-kala-azar drugs to bihar. "the centre would supply amphoterecin b to kala-azar patients" he said.
