Hospital employee denied maternity leave

SASARAM:

Rohtas

civil surgeon Dr

Nawal Kishor Prasad Sinha

rejected the

maternity

leave application of an expecting mother, but granted paternity leave to her husband, who also works in the sadar hospital’s physiotherapy department.

Sources in sadar hospital said

Roshni

Sinha and her husband Vivek Sinha, both contractual employees in the hospital’s physiotherapy department, had joined the service in 2014 and 2012, respectively. On November 5 this year, the couple applied separately to the civil surgeon of Rohtas through hospital’s deputy superintendent for maternity and paternity leave. The civil surgeon granted 15-day paternity leave to Vivek, but rejected his wife’s application on the ground that there is no such provision for contractual employees appointed by the state health department. Vivek was appointed by the

State Health Society

.

“There is no provision of maternity or paternity leave for contractual employees appointed by the health department. Only those recruited by the State Health Society can avail these facilities. Roshni can avail the leave without pay,” the civil surgeon said.
