Hit by truck, 2 police aspirants die in Rohtas
Sasaram: Two teenagers aspiring to join the police force were killed after being run over by a speeding truck during their routine morning run on a national highway in Rohtas district early Thursday.
The victims were identified as Ashish Kumar (16), son of Janeshwar Prasad, and Ranjan Kumar (17), son of Hulas Yadav, residents of Kalyanpur Bigha village under the Rohtas police station area. Both were preparing for police recruitment examinations and regularly went out for early-morning runs as part of their physical training.
According to police, the incident took place on Dehri-Rohtas main road (NH-119) near Murli Camp when a fast-moving truck hit the two youths. Ranjan died on the spot while Ashish suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the Rohtas primary health centre, where doctors declared him dead.
The truck was operating under a contractor linked to a cement manufacturing company. Following the incident, angry villagers blocked NH-119, disrupting traffic for nearly two hours and causing severe inconvenience to commuters, several of whom were forced to walk long distances.
On receiving information, SHO of Rohtas police station, the block development officer and the circle officer reached the spot and pacified the protesters, after which traffic was restored. Police officers assured the families of prompt action and all possible assistance.
After completing legal formalities, the bodies were sent to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over speeding heavy vehicles on highways passing through inhabited areas. Residents demanded stricter enforcement of traffic norms to prevent such tragedies, particularly during early morning hours when fitness trainees and walkers are most vulnerable.
