PATNA: Educational institutions in the city on Wednesday celebrated Hindi Diwas with enthusiasm by organizing literary and cultural programmes and debate and speech competitions for students. They wanted to showcase the importance of the day and raise awareness about the use of the national language, Hindi.
Addressing the celebrations at Patna Women's College, Patna University Hindi department head Tarun Kumar called upon students to use Hindi in their day-to- day work and also in their professional duties. He said Hindi's use has increased manifold with the advent of globalization and it is finding greater applications in the field of science and technology.
College Hindi department head Manjula Sushila welcomed the guests and outlined the importance of the day.
The winners of various inter-departmental competitions organized in the college were given prizes. The winners included Nidhi, Shivani, Apoorva (writing contest) and Kesa, Tripti and Nancy (debate).
A speech contest on "Contribution of Hindi in creation of scientific awareness" was organized for the students of PU geology department. Pallav, Rishi Kant, and Priya were awarded first, second and third prizes, respectively, in the contest.
Department head Atul Aditya Pandey, in his presidential remarks, observed that Hindi has certainly played an important role in creating a scientific temper in Indian society. PU students' welfare dean Anil Kumar also addressed the students. Bhavuk Sharma conducted the programme.
At a programme organized by the Hindi department of Magadh Mahila College, eminent litterateur Shiv Narain Singh threw light on the role of Hindi in the national freedom struggle and also in the post-independence development in the country. College Hindi department head Shipra Prabha welcomed the guests.
PU Hindi department organized a debate contest on the topic "The country has no future without making teaching of English compulsory", in which Aftab Raza, Nilima Kumari and Samir Kumar were awarded the first, second and third prizes, respectively. PU Hindi teacher Dilip Ram addressed the students.
