HC orders immediate arrest of cops accused of killing Rohtas youth

Patna: Expressing strong displeasure over the delay in arresting a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a constable accused of murdering a youth in public at Sasaram, the Patna high court has ordered the state's director general of police (DGP) to take appropriate action to arrest the accused officers and to submit an action taken report (ATR) to the court within a week.A single bench of Justice Sandeep Kumar issued the directive on Monday while hearing a criminal writ petition filed by Rana Rahul Ranjan.Petitioner's counsel, Sanjay Kumar Singh, informed the court that on the night of Dec 27 last year, his client's brother, Rana Om Prakash, along with friends, was celebrating a birthday party at the house of one Kalika Singh in Sasaram.At around 10pm, two police officers, Adil Bilal, then DSP (traffic) in Rohtas, and his bodyguard, Chandramouli Nagia alias Sonu, entered the party venue and allegedly demanded money from those present, threatening to charge everyone under the state's liquor prohibition laws if their demands were not met.The situation turned violent when attendees resisted, and, according to the petition, the two officers opened fire without any provocation. Om Prakash was shot dead on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.The court directed the DGP to submit the action taken report before May 5 when the matter will be heard again.
