Hazaribag shooting accused arrested from Patna village

PATNA: Santosh Pandey, who allegedly shot dead gangster Sushil Srivastava on the Hazaribag court campus on June 2, was arrested from village Jalpura under the Paliganj police station in Patna district on Monday.
Santosh, a native of Pandarak in Patna district, reportedly sprayed bullets with an AK-47 assault rifle, killing Srivastava on the spot. Another person, who sustained injuries in the incident, died at a Hazaribag hospital later.Some persons, including policemen, were also injured in the incident. Vikas Tiwari, leader of Bhola Pandey gang, had taken responsibility for the killing.
"A police team from Jharkhand, on getting information about Santosh, reached Patna and contacted us. We joined the Jharkhand police and raided Japura village where Santosh was found living with his family. No arms were recovered from Santosh's possession or his house," said Paliganj DSP Mithilesh Kumar.
Srivastava's gang and rival Pandey's gang had clashed several times in the past at Khelari, Bhurkunda, Barka Syal, Patratu, Ramgarh, Jamshedpur and Hazaribag over the issue of rake loading and collecting levy from illegal coal miners. Earlier, members of Srivastava's gang had eliminated Bhola Pandey. Shrivastava's wife was also killed in the gang war.
