PATNA: AIIMS-Patna will start hair transplant next month. Ten patients have already registered for androgenic alopecia (baldness in males). Head of skin department of the hospital, Dr Rajesh Sinha said patient will have to shell out Rs 2,000-Rs 5,000 for the surgery.
According to Dr Sinha, it will be completed in one sitting which may last for five hours.
Follicular unit transplant will be done on these patients. Hairs of ccipital region (back of the head) will be taken out through motorized punch and implanted in the region which is devoid of hair.
Dr Sinha said these traces of hairs will grow like normal ones. Those traces will not suffer from hairfall too as they will not be affected by androgen hormone. This hormone normally affects the hair in the front region.
The surgery is not painful and the patient is given local anaesthesia. A CME on hair transplantation was organized in the institute on Tuesday. After surgery, the patient will have to take a drug lifelong that blocks androgen receptor.
