Patna: A four-day postage stamp exhibition,
Bihar DIGIPEX-2022, got off to a colourful start on Thursday with the release of special postal covers and felicitation of “distinguished achievers” at an online event in Patna.
Inaugurating the online exhibition, governor Phagu Chauhan said philately is not merely a hobby but also a great educator. Even a small stamp is a repository of great tradition and culture of a civilization and stamp collectors learn a lot from these postage stamps.
“Stamps tell us everything right from human life to art, science, culture, history and nature,” he said.
Chuahan, who released three special covers based on Raj Bhawan of Bihar, Sukhet Model (smoke-free and clean village) developed by Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University-Pusa and Unsung Heroes (Peer Ali Khan and seven martyrs), eulogized the rich cultural heritage of Bihar and said the exhibition would educate the younger generation about the various aspects of Indian culture.
The governor also applauded the services being rendered by the postal department in the service of the society. “During the Covid-19 pandemic the postal department facilitated withdrawal and deposit of money at the people’s doorstep through Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AEPS) and Post office on Wheel,” he said.
Chauhan also felicitated Agricultural University vice-chancellor R C Srivastava for developing the concept of Sukhet Model and national children’s bravery award recipient Dheeraj Kumar for showing exemplary courage.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, local MLA Nand Kishore Yadav, Chief Postmaster General Adnan Ahmad and postal services director Pawan Kumar also expressed their views on the occasion.
The exhibition organized under the theme ‘India’s rich cultural heritage’ displays altogether 80 frames of stamps.
