Govt to install LED screens at collectorates to monitor rural solar streetlights
Patna: In a move aimed at improving monitoring and transparency of rural infrastructure projects, the state govt has decided to install LED television screens in all district collectorates under the Chief Minister’s Rural Solar Light Scheme. The screens will display real-time information on the operational status of solar-powered street lights installed across gram panchayats.
According to officials, the initiative will help both authorities and the public track whether solar street lights in rural areas are functioning properly or require maintenance. By making this data publicly accessible, the govt hopes to detect error and ensure timely repairs.
Director of the panchayati raj department, Naveen Kumar Singh, has instructed all district officials to ensure installation of the LED televisions at prominent public locations within their collectorate campuses within the next 15 days. He described the initiative as a significant step towards enhancing citizen awareness and accountability in governance. Singh added that the state govt remains committed to maximising public benefit by keeping people informed about development activities in their regions.
As part of the project, the panchayati raj department, in collaboration with the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA), has developed a Centralised Monitoring System (CMS). The advanced system provides real-time updates on the functionality of solar street lights, indicating which lights are operational, which are faulty and where repairs are required.
The CMS data will be displayed on the LED screens installed at district offices, enabling continuous monitoring and greater administrative accountability. To support implementation of the initiative, the state govt has approved a budget of Rs 76 lakh, allocating Rs 2 lakh per district. The funds will be used exclusively for the procurement and installation of LED televisions across district collectorates.
