Govt plans to set up call centre for migrant workers
Patna: To provide assistance to labourers working within the state as well as outside it, the labour resources and migrant workers welfare department has decided to set up a dedicated call centre. The centre will provide a platform for workers to register their grievances.
Apart from the call centre, the department is also preparing to make public its mobile application through which it is collecting data on migrant workers.
Department secretary Deepak Anand said the tender for establishing the call centre has already been floated. “People of Bihar working outside the state or in foreign country can give their feedback to this call centre,” Anand said over the phone.
Sources said the call centre would be set up at Niyojan Bhawan near the Income Tax roundabout in Patna. “The bidding process has been initiated and we expect it to be completed in 45 days,” an official said.
Sources in the department further said the mobile application, named Bihar Pravasi Kamgar app, which was launched last year, is also undergoing a security audit. It is expected to be made public within a month. Nearly seven lakh migrant workers have already registered on the app and the number is expected to rise further.
“Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has given approval to link the information with Aadhaar. We are ensuring that privacy is maintained and the data remains secure. This will help in collecting information about people of Bihar working outside the state,” a source said.
