Govt doc, wife killed as car hits parked truck in Vaishali

Patna: A govt doctor and his wife were killed in a road accident in Vaishali district early Saturday when their car rammed into a parked truck due to poor visibility by dense fog. Driver of the car was injured in the accident.

Their pet dog, who was present in the car, was unhurt. The incident took place near the toll plaza in Sarai police station area.


The deceased were identified as Dr Jitendra Prasad (56), who was posted at Araria Sadar Hospital, and his wife, Jyotishina Prasad (50). They were residents of Patna district. They had come to Patna from Araria to visit the ailing mother of Jyotishina, who is admitted in a hospital.

The injured driver Sanjay is son of Araria resident Rajendra Yadav.

Dr Jitendra was third among four brothers. He has two sons. The elder son, Aditya, is a govt doctor, and the younger, Abhinav, is a medical aspirant.

Dr Jitendra was honoured by the state health department on Jan 16 last year for his remarkable contribution in the field of maternal and newborn health services in Araria district.

Sarai SHO, Mani Bhushan Kumar, said: “The accident occurred around 4.15am on the Muzaffarpur-Patna route. Due to dense fog, the car collided with a truck. After the collision, the truck driver fled from the scene.”

Sarai police station team immediately reached the accident site after getting the information. Police rescued the people trapped in the car and took them to Hajipur Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared the couple dead.
