PATNA: The Patna police on Saturday refuted reports that the hand of a minor girl, Umza Ara, was chopped off in a lane near Rajendra Nagar Terminal here on Thursday night. According to investigations by DSP (Town) on the orders of Patna SSP, the girl had received injuries in an accident at the railway terminal.
The girl's father, Ainul Ansari, a resident of Darbhanga district, had claimed that the girl's hand was chopped off by one
Bobby Khan and his accomplices.
According to him, Khan was an accused in a case of kidnapping of Ansari's younger son. The girl was a witness in the case.
Patna SSP Manu Maharaj said during investigations near the Rajendra Nagar Terminal, one Karu Ram told police that four persons had alighted from Darbhanga-Patna intercity express around 9.30pm on Thursday. As the train started moving again, they tried to board the train, but in the process the girl fell down. The train was made to stop and Karu took out the girl from under the train. He handed over the girl, who had suffered grievous injuries in the right hand and palm, to her parents. Some shopkeepers and other locals told the police that nobody had heard of the loot and injury incident claimed by Ansari.
After the incident, Ansari took the girl to PMCH where doctors amputated her hand. The SSP said, "The medical reports of the girl has been tampered with as the doctor first wrote it to be a case of rail traffic accident and later it was cut and described as 'assault'."
According to cops, the girl's injury does not suggest that her right hand had been chopped off with some sharp object. In fact, it is like an accident injury with other wound marks. Cops have found blood stains on Karu's cloths and are planning to send them to forensic lab to match them with the girl's blood to ascertain the veracity of Karu's statement to police.
Ansari claimed in the FIR lodged with the Pirbahore police station that Khan and his accomplices demanded an extortion of Rs 1 lakh on the fateful night. When the family refused to pay, Khan chopped the right hand of his daughter and snatched Rs 14,000 from them.
When Patna cops made inquiries about the kidnapping case, Darbhanga cops informed them that it was a fake case. During the last three years, Ainul has filed seven cases against these people, and all of them have been found false. However, the SSP said, "We are investigating the case further."
