Girl drowns in Buxar village pond

Buxar: One Anshu Kumari (13) drowned in a pond at Navadera village under Naya Bhojpur police station area in Buxar district on Sunday.Anshu, daughter of Dhan Ji Chaudhary, was a class VIII student and good in studies, local people said. The incident occurred when Anshu had gone to the pond with her friends to bathe after getting dirty while playing. Unaware of the depth, she ventured deeper into the water and drowned. The other children raised an alarm. Farmers working in the nearby field rushed to the pond, but despite their efforts to rescue her, she died, they said. Manish Kumar, SHO of Naya Bhojpur, said the body was sent to a govt hospital for the postmortem.Punit Kumar Singh, block development committee member of Chilahari panchayat, has urged the district administration to provide compensation to Anshu's family. He, along with the villagers, emphasised the need for safety measures around ponds and similar water bodies to prevent such incidents in the future.
