BHAGALPUR: Close on the heels of fake LLB degree awarded to former Delhi law minister and AAP MLA Jitender Singh Tomar by Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU), its authorities have detected forgery in the tabulation register (TR) to prepare mark sheets for ghost candidates who were neither enrolled in the university nor appeared at any examination.
The irregularities have been detected in the TR of BSc and BCom Part-I examinees of 2016. The job of preparing mark sheets has been outsourced to a private agency on the basis of marks mentioned in the TR.
When contacted, TMBU acting vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kshemendra Kumar Singh said on Tuesday the internal probe had so far detected at least ten ghost students, who did not appear at any examination. “We will take suitable action against those found involved in forging the TR with the purpose of issuing fake degrees on the basis of the mark sheets,” Singh said.
TMBU sources said the number of ghost candidates is in hundreds. The sources said marks have been allotted to many students whose names, roll numbers and registration numbers were found only in the tabulation register and nowhere else. It is alleged that some examination department employees are hand in glove with the outsourced agency and racketeers operating in the university to get fake degrees issued to their candidates.
It has also been detected that many students who scored low in marks file had been given high marks in the tabulation register. Sources said many students who got good marks were shown either absent or their marks were not mentioned in the TR. Sources alleged that it is done to extract money from the bona fide students in the name of correcting the records.
