Earlier, Srikant Sharma escaped being punished along with 12 other accused of the vigilance case. According to the registrar, the decision not to seize the financial power of Islam and Sharma have been taken on the basis of legal advice tendered by the university's legal department.
Earlier, Srikant Sharma, principal, TPS College escaped punitive action and was the only principal among a set of 14 to have retained his financial powers despite figuring as accused in the vigilance case. Altogether, 14 serving principals figure as accused in the vigilance case and all others except Sharma were divested of their financial powers.
With MU VC Prof Md Ishtiaq divesting 12 principals of their financial powers, the colleges are now being run by lame duck principals. These colleges include Nalanda Mahila College, Biharsharif, and Guru Govind Singh College, Patna City. According to university insiders, the seizure of financial powers of these principals has, besides causing acute embarrassment, considerably eroded their authority inside their respective institutions.

Financial power of 12 of the 14 principals, who figure as accused in the vigilance, have given to some university officials. As per the new arrangement, dean, students welfare, Sitaram Singh will exercise the financial power of four different colleges including ANS College, Barh, and SBAM College, Darhetta Lari.
