Patna: The state capital has been decked up to celebrate the 77th Republic Day.
Gandhi Maidan, where the main function will be held on Monday, has been sealed to give finishing touches to the programme.
The boundary of Gandhi Maidan has been decorated with tricolour fabric, while workers are setting up tents and decorating the main stage and the flag-hoisting dais. All 13 gates of Gandhi Maidan have been kept locked during the preparations.
Security has been beefed up at the venue, with police and paramilitary personnel guarding the entire area. As many as 10,000 seats have been arranged for visitors. Public entry will begin at 7am through gate numbers 5, 6 and 7, and visitors have been asked to take their seats by 8.30am.
Across the city, a team of 500 workers spent 10 days repainting roadside grilles, dividers and footpaths. Monu Kumar, one of the workers, said, “The team worked from 9am to 5pm daily, with a one-hour lunch break.”
Md Sonu, a painter, said, “Our team will work through the night to complete the remaining work by Monday.”
The Republic Day programme will be telecast live on 15 Patna Smart City variable message display screens set up at various locations, including JP roundabout, Kargil Chowk, Income Tax roundabout, Patna Zoo Gate No. 1 and Danapur railway station, among others. Residents will also be able to view the programme at Kankarbagh, Boring Road and New Secretariat.
Buildings near Gandhi Maidan, including Biscomaun Bhavan and Gyan Bhavan, have also been illuminated in tricolour.
