Paswan’s son Chirag has been re-elected from Jamui while the LJP chief’s brothers Ram Chandra and Pashupati Kumar Paras won from Samastipur and Hajipur respectively. Also, BJP’s Hukumdev Narayan Yadav’s son Ashok Yadav retained his father’s Madhubani seat which he represented four times, including in 2014, in the Lok Sabha.

But the kin of leading Mahagathbandhan leaders failed to find people’s favour. The biggest setback was for RJD president Lalu Prasad whose eldest daughter Misa Bharti also lost in Pataliputra for the second time to BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav.

Former CM Kedar Pandey’s grandson and Congress nominee Shashwat Kedar lost in Valmikinagar to JD(U)’s Baidyanath Prasad Mahto while Congress functionary Akhilesh Prasad Singh’s son Akash Kumar Singh from RLSP conceded defeat to BJP’s Radha Mohan Singh in Purvi Champaran.

Patna University political science department head Shefali Roy attributed it to Modi wave. “The winning candidates from political families in Bihar are from BJP and LJP. People have voted for Narendra Modi and not to any specific candidate,” she said, adding dynasty politics is very much prevalent in the country and it is difficult for a common political worker to get ticket to contest the elections.
