Patna: Four members of an ATM fraud gang were arrested from Bahadurpur police station area of the city on Tuesday night. The gang used to replace or steal ATM cards from unsuspecting victims to withdraw large amount of money from their bank accounts.
According to police, a complaint was lodged by a man at Bahadurpur police station about replacement of an ATM card, with which, the fraudsters withdrew Rs 1.65 lakh from his account on January 30.
City SP (east) K Ramdas said the police examined the CCTV footage from the ATM kiosk and identified one of the accused. "A search operation was launched, and all four accused — identified as Vikas Kumar, Nikhil Raj, Arvind Kumar and Nandan Kumar — were arrested from the same area on Tuesday night. During interrogation, they confessed to their involvement in over 10 cases of ATM frauds."
The police have recovered Rs 14,090 in cash, a four-wheeler vehicle, four smartphones, a wifi dongle, eight ATM cards, five passbooks of different banks, an Aadhaar card, two PAN cards, a vehicle registration certificate, land documents and a chequebook from the accused, he added.
The SP further said the police are investigating their properties and will seize them if they find evidence that these were purchased using the fraudulent funds.
