PATNA: Patna Police here on Friday arrested seven persons for their involvement in antisocial activities, including supply of fake diamonds and theft. Four suppliers of fake diamonds were arrested from an area under Srikrishnapuri police station.
The police had been receiving inputs regarding the supply of fake diamonds in the state capital. Local diamond businessmen were being conned by fraudulent persons.
A police team was sent to Begusarai district for collecting and examining information about the activities of the gang. The team got information about the presence of members of a fake diamond suppliers' gang in the state capital. Acting on a tip-off, a police team nabbed four persons.
Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said on Friday that Sanoj Kumar, Vikki Kumar, Jitendra Kumar and Sanjeev Ranjan were arrested by the police and a 1.71-carat diamond was seized from their possession, besides four cellphones and one SUV. The evaluation of the diamond was being done to ascertain its market value, he added.
The SSP told reporters here that the arrested Sanoj Kumar told police that he himself was duped of Rs 29 lakh by some Pakistani frauds. He resorted to conning local jewellers in a bid to recover the money he lost.
In another development, Patna police unearthed a syndicate that used to steal copper wire and batteries in the rural as well as urban areas of the district. Three persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in such thefts from government as well as private premises in the district. The police seized large quantities of copper wires, batteries of mobile phone towers and zinc plates from their possession.
SSP Maharaaj said the arrested persons were identified as Raju Kumar, Ranjeet Sao and Mukesh Kumar. He said the arrested trio, in course of interrogation, confessed their involvement in theft cases and told the police that they were on way to Delhi, where they were supposed to sell the stolen goods at throwaway price. The SSP said the police were examining the criminal history of the trio.
