PATNA: Florists around the city saw a heavy rush of lovebirds on Monday on the eve of Rose Day, the first day of the Valentine’s week.
According to florists, Valentine’s week is one of the busiest times of the year for them. They hope to see an increase in the sales of flowers this year, compared to last year when market was low due to the pandemic.
“With the ongoing wedding season and Valentine’s week, we have already started witnessing an increase in the number of buyers,” said Anshul Poddar, owner of a florist’s shop at Dak Bunglow Road.
“Due to sharp surge in demand of flowers today, we are only accepting orders for rose bouquets. People mostly ordered heart-shaped bouquets,” said Subhash Singh, a florist’s shop proprietor in Jaganpura area.
Restaurants are also getting ready for the occasion by offering discounts in order to draw customers. Many expect a large influx of customers during the Valentine’s week.
“We have planned to host a couple of dance competitions and quiz contests from February 10 to 14 on the theme of ‘love’. The winners will get gift hampers and 10-15% discount on food items during their next visit to our café,” said Sashank Anand, owner of a café at Boring Canal Road.
Over the years, the fondness for Valentine’s Day among couples in the city has increased by leaps and bounds. Rose Day, the beginning of the special week, is considered by people as an ideal occasion to gift flowers to their loved ones.
“It’s my first Valentine's week with my husband and I am very excited to finally have someone to celebrate it with. I will have already bought flowers and chocolates for him on Rose Day,” said Soumya Raj, a resident of Kankarbagh.
