districts are affected by floods, which affected 76,85,700 people till Monday. Flood situation remained grim in many areas as six rivers, including Bagmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamla Balan, Adhwara, Khiroi and Mahananda were following above danger level at 13 different flood gauges on the seventh consecutive day.

Also, the water resources department (WRD) bulletin on Monday stated that a breach occurred in the left embankment of Khiroi river. WRD engineer-in-chief of flood control and water drainage section, Rajesh Kumar, however, claimed that the breach was filled with sandbags by the evening.

But most rivers showed a receding trend, except Bagmati at one place, Burhi Gandak at two places and Kamla Balan at one place. Altogether 76,400 people were staying in 81 relief camps. The government is running 712 community kitchens in the flood affected districts. Incidentally, the number of relief camps as well as community kitchens has come down in the last one week.

Nonetheless, total 26 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) comprising 796 people were deployed in the flood affected districts.

Private weather agency Skymet on Monday said relief and rescue operations might get affected due to rainfall predicted in the flood affected districts in north Bihar. “Places like Madhubani, Supaul, Sitamarhi, Purnia, Kishanganj are likely to record good rainfall. On a positive note, the rain will not be heavy enough to create any flood-like situation in the state. However, relief operations being carried out might get hampered due to rain,” the Skymet reported.
