Patna: Police arrested five people within 24 hours in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old e-rickshaw driver,
Mohammad Shahzada.
Shahzada's body, bearing multiple stab wounds and head injuries from blunt force, was found on Monday in a water body near the Fatehpur security bund under Didarganj police station area.
Addressing a press conference, Rural SP Vikram Singh said, "Preliminary investigation revealed that Shahzada was in a relationship with one of the accused's sisters. To avenge this, the two brothers, along with their three friends, planned the murder."
Ranveer Kumar, SHO of Didarganj, said the accused have been identified as Sumit Kumar and Sujit Kumar, two brothers, and their friends Sunny Kumar, Paramjeet Kumar and Aaditya Kumar.
He added: "The two brothers booked Shahzada's e-rickshaw under the guise of attending a birthday party and carried their weapons inside a gift box. They took him to an isolated place and attacked him. After killing him, they threw his body and the e-rickshaw into the water body."
The SHO said the special investigation team (SIT) constituted to probe the incident, using scientific methods, arrested the five accused within 24 hours and recovered the tools used in the crime, including a chisel, chopper and pipe wrench.
Meanwhile, angry residents of Hajiganj staged a protest against the killing.
