PATNA: Lt-General Ashish Ranjan Prasad has become the first Bihari to head the Army's Corps of Signals since Independence.
Having roots in Nawada district and coming from a humble background and youngest among seven brothers, Prasad did his schooling from different towns before joining Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, now a part of Jharkhand.
Corps of Signals is one of the most important organs of Army as it connects defence forces during war and peace with reliable communication facility. Prasad joined the office of chief of signals early this month.
"Being the son of a police sub-inspector having limited resources, we had to face lots of difficulties in early life. We did not have the facility of good schools and round-the -clock electricity. We had money that was sufficient only to meet basic necessities," said Prasad on Thursday over phone.
Manoj Prasad, elder brother of Lt-General Prasad, said, "He was a very sincere student and we knew that he will achieve great heights. We are proud that he is leading one of the most important wings of army."
