Firefighter dies in line of duty in Siwan

PATNA: A massive fire broke out in a house at Nautan Bazar under the same police station of Siwan district on early Wednesday morning. Seven people were rescued, however, a 37-year-old firefighter died in the line of duty while attempting to douse the flames.

The deceased has been identified as fire havildar Ravikant Mandal, resident of Bhagalpur district, who was posted at fire unit of Siwan Town for the last six months. The police sent the body to the sadar hospital for autopsy.

The fire broke out around 3am at the three-storey house of one Pappu Kanu and immediately spread to the saw mill and shops on the ground floor of the building. SHO of Nautan police station Rahul Bharti said the house was completely engulfed by the flames, and the family members were trapped inside the building.
