Police sources said Badak Chaubey and Kanhaiya Chaubey, who had recently returned from jail after serving sentences related to the dispute, along with Ganesh Chaubey, Baliram Chaubey and Vidyasagar Chaubey, reached the field to harvest the crop. Sanjay Chaubey and his supporters objected, demanding that harvesting should be done only in the presence of the district administration officials, as the former had won the case in a court.
An argument followed, during which the accused allegedly opened fire and also attacked with sticks and clubs. Sanjay Chaubey sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to the sadar hospital in Buxar, where doctors declared him dead.
Three others—Dhananjay Chaubey, Daroga Chaubey and Mohan Chaubey—suffered head injuries in the assault and are undergoing treatment at the sadar hospital.
Buxar SP, Shubham Arya, said police have launched an investigation and raids are on to arrest the accused.
