Extended JEE-A merit list: Pupils on cloud nine
PATNA: With the IIT-Kanpur extending the merit list for JEE-Advanced following a direction by the Union human resource development department, several students in the state were on cloud nine on Friday as they “unexpectedly” cleared the test for entry into undergraduate courses at 23 IITs across the country. The new list has 31,980 candidates instead of 18,138 students who were earlier declared as qualified on June 10.
Ekansh Roy from Buxar, who scored 101 in JEE-Advanced with All India Rank (AIR) of 19,367, said, “I had decided to reappear in the JEE next year. Thanks to the new cut-off that has been reduced to 90 from 120, I have finally cleared the test. It is really unbelievable for me.”
Manas Kashyap of Patna said the extended merit list was nothing short of a miracle for him. “My parents were really happy when they came to know that the cut-off has been reduced. I am now looking forward for the counselling rounds of various IITs and NITs.” Manas, who scored 106 in JEE-Advanced, has secured AIR 17,632.
Chandan Raj of Gaya, who scored 96 and secured AIR 21,617, said, “I was very confused and worried about my future plans. On Thursday, a friend told me about the release of an extended merit by IIT-Kanpur. Initially, I thought it was a joke. However, when I crosschecked the information, I was on cloud nine.”
Another student from Munger, Udeept Shandilya, who has secured AIR 14,601, too echoed Chandan’s tone.
