PATNA: There was no respite from scorching heat on Thursday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the maximum temperature soared above 40 degrees C at 25 observatories across the state.
The IMD issued heatwave warnings for 14 places in the state, while three places - Motihari, Khagaria, and Katihar - experienced severe heatwave conditions on Thursday. Patna sizzled with a on Thursday maximum temperature of 43.3 degrees C, as heatwave engulfed the city for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday.
A "very severe" heatwave warning has been issued for isolated areas in Sheikhpura district, which recorded the highest maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees C on Thursday.
According to the evening bulletin released by Patna Meteorological Centre, Supaul hit a staggering 47.19 degrees C in terms of the feel-like temperature, with Begusarai coming in at a close second with 46.17 degrees C.
Vivek Sinha, director at Patna Meteorological Centre, said, "Certain areas in the state will begin to see a reduction in the distribution of the heatwave starting from Friday. On Thursday, some parts of the south-western districts, including Gaya, experienced thunderstorms. This trend is expected to continue for the next two to three days," he added.
Isolated places in the north-west and south-west parts of the state are likely to experience light rain on April 22. Some isolated parts in the south-central and south-east parts of the state may also witness thunderstorms with lightning on April 23 and 24.
Neha Kumari, another MET official said, "Westerly or north-westerly winds are likely to blow at a speed of 10-20Kmph, gusting up to 30kmph till Friday."
