PATNA: The district administration and Patna Municipal Corporation have engaged workers to level the ground by filling soil in the gap following the collapse of the boundary wall of an apartment on Monday due to the piling work on an adjacent plot.

The apartment is situated on Parmanand Path in Nageshwar Colony under the Buddha Colony police station area here.

Patna municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar on Tuesday ordered filing of a vigilance case against the land owner and builder of Takshashila Education Society for illegal construction work near Vasudev Apartment that led to the collapse of the building’s boundary wall.

During the excavation of an adjacent land for building construction on Parmanand Path, the boundary wall of Vasudev Apartment had collapsed, causing panic among the residents. Those living in the apartment left the building in fear. A police team led by sadar SDO reached the spot and stopped the excavation work. There was, however, no report of loss to life or property. Parashar has also ordered lodging of an FIR against the construction firm for causing damage to the adjacent residential apartment and the road.

As per a communiqué issued by Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday, the construction was done in violation of the approved map. Two basements were also being constructed, while the approval was given for one basement only.

Additional municipal commissioner Sheila Irani said the construction work was stopped immediately after the collapse of the boundary wall. “Seepage in the water supply and drainage pipelines has been repaired. No damage has been caused to the foundation of the building. A case has been registered against the construction company and the PMC is looking into the matter,” Irani added.

Executive officer of PMC’s Patliputra circle, Pratibha Sinha, said wooden boards have been installed in place of the damaged boundary wall. “The map was approved for construction by the PMC, but the agency concerned dug deeper than the permissible limit. Damages have been repaired. The company has been asked to fill the soil and repair the wall. The PMC, district administration and police teams are camping at the site to avert any mishap,” Sinha added.
