EOU cracks down on sand, land and exam mafias in Bihar
Patna: Deputy inspector general, Economic Offences Unit (EOU),Manavjeet Singh Dhillon, on Monday said his unit has started preparations toconfiscate the properties of about two dozen sand and land mafias in the state,besides arresting the gang members of examination mafia Sanjeev Mukhiya.
Addressing a press conference at the police headquartershere, Dhillon said notorious examination mafia Sanjay Kumar Prabhat and membersof his gang were committing fraud by giving false assurances to candidates ofpassing them in examinations organised for recruitment to various posts,including police driver.
“Based on secret information, Prabhat of Sheikhpura districtwas arrested. The accused Sanjeev Mukhiya is an active member of the gang.Meanwhile, Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Goyal alias Chandan Sir of the Mukhiyagang was also arrested by the police team in recent days. During interrogationof the accused, the EOU obtained several important pieces of information. TheEOU is engaged in further action in this case,” Dhillon said.
The DIG also informed that necessary actions have been takenagainst eight land mafias and 11 sand mafias of the state. “The eight landmafias include Md Rizwan alias Raja, resident of Modampur village in Bahadurpurpolice station area of Darbhanga district, Ashwini Kumar Singh, resident ofLohia Nagar in Kankarbagh police station in Patna, Kamakhya Singh of Bhojpurdistrict, Virendra Prasad Bind and others of Kaimur district, Raj BallabhKumar, resident of Danapur Nayatola, Paras Ray, Sanjay Kumar alias SantoshKumar Don, resident of Kasimpur Panchrukhiya in Khusrupur police station area,and Tinku Kumar alias Pinku Yadav, resident of Kothwan in Khagaul policestation area. The EOU is preparing to confiscate property worth about Rs 39crore of these accused.
“Similarly, the department started action to confiscateproperty worth about Rs 15.09 crore of 11 sand mafias,” he said.
Dhillon said the EOU tightened the noose on Bhavesh KumarSingh, development officer of the Pataliputra Central Co-operative Bank.“During investigation, the EOU found that Bhavesh has immense property,” hesaid.
