Eid: 40,000 likely to offer namaz at Gandhi Maidan

PATNA: More than 40,000 people are expected to gather at Gandhi Maidan to offer namaz on the occasion of

Eid-ul-Fitr

this year.

Chairman of Eidain Committee Mahmood Alam said the members of the committee attended a meeting convened by the district administration on Thursday to discuss necessary arrangements for the festival. “Senior police officers also participated in the meeting. This year, more than 40,000 people are expected to participate in the mass prayer at 8am on the day of Eid. Chief minister Nitish Kumar visits the Maidan every year after the namaz at 8.30am. To welcome him, we will set up a tent near the Eidgah,” Alam added.

He said the district administration would provide drinking water and medical facilities to the Muslim devotees. “The entire Gandhi Maidan will be cleaned for the event. Water will be sprayed through tankers. Door-frame metal detectors will also be installed at all entrance gates of the Maidan,” Alam said.

Eidain Committee, which has been organising mass prayer for Muslims on Eid at Gandhi Maidan since 1920, will celebrate its centenary year in 2020. “The tradition of chief minister visiting the Eidgah started with Nitish Kumar. He has promised to keep the tradition alive,” Alam said.
