GAYA: Gaya DM-cum-district election officer
Sanjay Agrawal on Monday cautioned state assembly elections candidates against misuse of bodyguards to either intimidate the voters or engage them for works other than their personal safety and security.
Action will be taken against the protected candidates in case of complaint of misuse of security personnel after proper verification, said the DM
The DM was talking to newsmen at the Gaya collectorate during the mandatory joint briefing on the first day of nomination process that started at 11 am. Nomination for the 10 assembly seats of Gaya district including the three constituencies reserved for SC candidates will continue till 3 pm on September 28. Only one nomination was filed in the district on the first day. Ranjit Prasad filed the nomination for the Gaya town seat. No nomination was filed for the remaining nine seats of the district. The DM also said all efforts are being made to increase the poll percentage through awareness creation and persuade the voters to turnout in large numbers to exercise their franchise. A brand ambassador to promote voter turnout would be selected in a couple of days, said the DM.
During the joint briefing, SSP Manu Maharaj said Crime Control Act proceedings against 48 criminals were being initiated to rein in the anti-social elements fair poll.
Besides invoking provisions of the Crime Control Act, police have also executed 1,200 pending warrants of arrest and 300 license holders have been asked to surrender their weapons while 3,000 arms licenses are being verified, said the SSP.
