Human Rights Day observed at educational institutions
Patna: Teachers and students of different educational institutions in the city on Tuesday organised several programmes on the occasion of the 76th anniversary celebrations of Human Rights Day. The theme of this year's celebration was "Our rights, our future, right now".Students and teachers of the political science department, along with the NCC volunteers of Patna Women's College (PWC), formed a human chain opposite the college on Nehru Path (Bailey Road), symbolising solidarity for human rights.PWC principal Sister M Rashmi congratulated the students on successfully raising awareness about human rights issues. The event was organised under the guidance of political science department head Vinita Priyedarshi.The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and political science department of Magadh Mahila College (MMC) organised talks on "gender and human rights", "modern day genocide and international humanitarian law" and "violation of human rights at national and international level" by Mukul Bihari Verma of L N Mithila University, Amol Pushpa, advocate, Delhi High Court, and Ananya Singh of MMC, respectively. All the speakers expressed their concern over the increasing human rights violations and pleaded for safeguarding the basic rights of every individual in the light of Constitutional provisions.College principal Namita Kumari also addressed the students, emphasising the significance of human rights in the modern era.In another function, the Bihar Institute of Economic Studies organised a seminar on human rights here on Tuesday under the chairmanship of social activist and Patna University social science faculty's former dean Nawal Kishore Chaudhary. At the seminar it was resolved to fight for the implementation of basic human rights.
