Earning boost: Power firms post Rs19,035-crore collection

Patna: Bihar’s power distribution companies achieved a record revenue collection of Rs19,035 crore during the financial year 2025-26. The earnings were around 12% (Rs 1,916 crore) more as compared to the previous fiscal.

Congratulating the teams on this achievement, the state’s energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav on Wednesday said this success reflects the visionary leadership of CM Nitish Kumar and the positive impact of citizen-centric policies of the state govt. He emphasised that the cooperation and timely bill payments by consumers have played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.

Out of the total revenue collected, the North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) contributed Rs8,866 crore, while the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) accounted for Rs10,169 crore.

The energy minister also appreciated the efforts of the energy department officials, engineers and staff of both Discoms for their dedication in achieving record revenue collection. He noted that improved consumer services, stronger grievance redressal systems and continuous engagement with consumers have contributed significantly to this outcome. The availability of reliable 24X7 power supply has also encouraged consumers to make timely payments.

State’s energy secretary Manoj Kumar Singh stated that billing and collection efficiency remains a key parameter in assessing Discom performance. Improved efficiency has enabled the utilities to provide uninterrupted services without imposing additional financial burden on consumers.
