PATNA: Former deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday appealed to people to shed their prejudices and come forward in large numbers to voluntarily donate their body organs and eyes for medical research and transplantation.
Addressing a mass awareness function organized by Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti (DDDS) at Sahajanand Saraswati Park in S K Nagar, the DDS patron said medical colleges also needed human bodies for students to study.

Besides, people should also volunteer to donate their eyes, as those who have permanently impaired eyes need transplantation to gain eyesight, he added.
As many as 150 people participated in the programme. The DDS, which is dedicated to conduct mass awareness programme on voluntary donation of bodies, has conducted eight such meetings in different city parks recently.
Incidentally, an eye transplantation unit has become functional at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). Dr Vibhuti Prasanna Sinha of the IGIMS said 150 eye transplants had been conducted at the IGIMS so far.
On the occasion, four persons voluntarily enlisted themselves to donate their bodies. They are ‘divyangas (physically challenged persons)’ Anurag Chandra and Santosh Kumar Mishra besides Lalan Kumar Gupta and his wife. Sunday happened to be the Guptas’ 28th marriage anniversary day.
Among others who also spoke on the occasion were former BJP MLC Ganga Prasad and party’s Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia.
