Does cool weather boost turnout? Patna voters differ on impact
Patna: The cool weather during the assembly election sparked discussion over its potential influence on voter turnout, particularly, when compared to the parliamentary elections held in the summer.
While a general view suggests the crisp autumn polling period offers a distinct advantage over the sweltering summer months, many voters feel that weather makes little difference, as all should have commitment to participating in the festival of democracy.
The first phase election saw a maximum temperature above 30 degrees Celsius across most of the constituencies.
“Standing in a queue was not an issue, as the weather was pleasant on Thursday,” said Preet Kumar from Digha assembly constituency.
However, Md Shaheen had a different view. “The weather is less of a factor because polling booths are generally not too far from residences in urban areas,” he said.
Dr Rajiv Kumar of S K Nagar and Shravan Kumar of Nageshwar Colony said, “Aware and responsible citizens will cast their votes irrespective of the weather condition.”
