DM launches first phase of census 2027 in Patna

Patna: District magistrate (DM) of Patna, Thiyagarajan S M, on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of Census 2027 at Ramji Chak in Danapur Nizamat Municipal Council, marking the start of house listing and housing count operations for govt policy formulation.

The district administration has been divided into two units: the municipal commissioner will oversee the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) area, while the DM will serve as the principal census officer for 40 charges covering rural areas and other urban bodies. The census will utilise a digital system for data collection to aid planning in education, health, infrastructure and social welfare programmes.



A workforce of 7,963 enumerators and 1,343 supervisors has been deployed across 8,114 house listing blocks to ensure complete coverage. Additionally, a reserve pool of 899 enumerators and 154 supervisors has been kept ready for immediate replacement if required.

The digital census also includes a self-enumeration feature. In Patna district, around 2.5 lakh families have already submitted their data through an online portal. Residents who opt for self-enumeration must provide their reference numbers to field staff for verification.

The DM stated that robust technical measures have been put in place to secure all collected information and ensure that individual data remains confidential. The data will be used to guide the development of hospitals, schools, roads and water facilities by aligning resources with regional needs.

The administration has urged citizens to provide accurate information to enumerators and rely only on official communication to prevent the spread of rumours during the nationwide exercise.
