Denied 'extortion', RJD lawmaker's son opens fire in Aurangabad

Aurangabad: Tension prevailed in Daudnagar locality here when two groups of RJD activists, one led by Kunal Kumar, son of party MLA from Obra Birendra Sinha and the other by Prakash Chandra, state vice chairman of RJD's disaster management cell, allegedly exchanged gunfire on Saturday. However, no one was injured in the clash.

Chandra alleged that the MLA's son had demanded Rs 25,000 extortion from him and threatened to kidnap his sister if he failed to pay the amount. "Kunal always shows his muscle power. Last week, he had thrashed a businessman in the town," Chandra said.

SDPO (sadar) P N Sahu, who rushed to the spot along with other police personnel to control the situation, said at least half 5-6 rounds were fired by the two sides. "Police are trying to restore normalcy in the area," said the SDPO.

Meanwhile, Obra MLA Birendra Sinha has refuted all allegations against his son. "My son does not possess any firearm. How can he open fire? I do not believe in politics of violence," the MLA claimed. Chandra, however alleged that the MLA was an accused in a 1995 murder case. "The MLA's son is following in his father's footsteps," Chandra said.

Meanwhile, the MLA's son blocked road at Bhakharua Mor for more than an hour, demanding immediate arrest of Chandra. The blockade was lifted after police assured Kunal and his supporters of launching an investigation into the incident.

Condemning the incident, district RJD president Kaileshwar Prasad Yadav said indiscipline in the party would not be tolerated at any cost. "Nobody is above the party. The incident would be reported to party chief Lalu Prasad," he said.
