Munger: Roadshows, dharnas and demonstrations marked Kranti Diwas here on Tuesday with political parties, organisations and individuals joining the chorus of establishment of a university, an engineering college, a medical college and a polytechnic institute at the divisional headquarters.
An impressive roadshow was taken out under the banner of Vishwavidyalay Nirman Sangharsha Morcha. It was led by convenor of the Morcha Pramod Yadav, Naresh Yadav, Prof Shabbir Hassan, Parvej Chand, Pankaj Yadav and Mantoo Sharma. The roadshow began from Azad Chowk after the participants garlanded the statues of Chandrashekhar Azad, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Rajiv Gandhi.
A large number of students, college and school teachers, lawyers, educationists, businessmen and political workers participated in the roadshow. Participants were seen distributing a printed leaflet addressed to chief minister Nitish Kumar, demanding establishment of a university and other higher education institutes here.
Speakers, including Pramod Yadav, Prof Shabbir Hssan and Naresh Yadav accused the state government of meting out step-motherly treatment to Munger. Later, a unanimous resolution was adopted to continue the agitation until the government accepted the demand.
Meanwhile, Socialist Party activists led by the party’s district president Pappu Yadav took out a procession in the town to mark the day. They shouted slogans against the alleged misrule of the Bihar government. Later, the agitators also held a demonstration in front of the office of divisional commissioner in support of their multiple demands.
